What To Expect

Dove Creek Music provides acoustic and electric guitar, as well as electric bass instruction, for players at every level—from absolute beginner to seasoned performer.
With roots going back more than 35 years, Dove Creek Music is built on a commitment to customized instruction. Music evolves. Technology evolves. But the most effective way to learn is still a one-on-one experience with a trusted teacher who knows how to connect.

What We Offer

PRICING INFORMATION: Each weekly lesson is 45 minutes and modules are billed in 4-lesson packages for $180. Most students complete a level in about 16 weeks, depending on their consistency and applied effort.
Beginning Player
Start by getting familiar with your instrument and building a strong foundation of proper technique. You’ll begin playing both single notes and basic chord shapes, all while learning songs that support your goals. This is about growing your confidence and learning to enjoy the process.

Intermediate Player
This phase expands your understanding of chords and theory while introducing extended left- and right-hand techniques. You’ll begin building a personal repertoire in the style of music you love most, sharpening your skills and expanding your creativity.

Meet Your Instructor: Dean Prater

With more than four decades of experience, Dean Prater brings unmatched depth and passion to music instruction. As the founder of Dove Creek Music, Dean has taught students from California to Texas, and for the last 10 years has been rooted in the vibrant music community of Austin.
Dean offers expert instruction in acoustic and electric guitar, as well as electric bass. His wide musical palette includes praise and worship, bluegrass, pop, rock, country, blues, and jazz. He’s also a seasoned songwriter who works closely with students wanting to develop their own original material.
Whether you’re learning your first chord or preparing to step onstage, Dean meets you exactly where you are—and helps you move forward with confidence.
